May 11, 2009 · In any case, I was wondering about the manual use of a milling machine with ball screws. For the record, the screws are nice and tight, and there appears to be no slack at all. The table moves easily and there is little to no wear at the point where the lead screws enter the ball units.

Mar 24, 2012 · I have a Clausing 8520 milling machine now - currently taken apart for cleaning and restoration - and I was giving some thought to seeing about maybe trying to add CNC to it at some point. Anyway, in doing a little preliminary research, it seems that ball screws work well for stepper motors, but maybe not so well for manual cranking.
